The R 75 is a heavy model of motorcycle with a powered sidecar and reverse gear. While it has a smaller version without sidecar, this model is especially efficient as it can be used as a courier, messenger vehicle, reconnaissance vehicle, and, in some cases, a light combat vehicle with option of mounting a machine gun on the sidecar. The R 75 2.4 meters long, 1.73 meters wide, and 1 meter high, and weighs 410 kilograms. It has no protective armor and can achieve speeds of up to ninety-two kilometers per hour. While a single driver is the only minimum for crew requirement, the R 75 can sometimes be difficult to control.
The R 75 was originally designed as standard military motorcycle, but was soon modified to fulfil the role as a reconnaissance vehicle, and was upgraded to have a sidecar. Before long it found itself fulfilling even combat roles, yet remained an efficient vehicle. It especially popular with the Afrika Corps and the Waffen-SS, and also saw extensive service with other countries aligned with Germany, one of the most notable being Italy.
