The M2 is a armored personnel carrier, and is protected by light steel plating on the sides, however is vulnerable to hand grenades and most other anti-tank weapons. The M2 measures 6.09 meters long, 1.98 meters wide and 2.28 meters high, and weighs 6,520 kilograms. The M2 requires a crew of only one driver, and can carry up to eight passengers. Most M2 vehicles are unarmed, but certain models within the US Army were equipped with 12.7 mm (.50 caliber) Browning M2HB machine guns. The maximum speed of the M2 is 72 km/h.
History[]
The M2 was designed by the Dodge company upon the United States entering into World War II as a suitable armored personnel carrier that combined the manouverability of a wheeled truck and the terrain traversing capabilities of a tracked vehicle. Much of the design was based on the already existing German SdKfz 251 half-track. The M2 saw extensive service throughout the war in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific.
